About This Event
Kat Cunning with The Dragon Sisters, HOLDN
With a traffic-stopping voice and powerful presence, Kat Cunning adds soulful grace to anthemic alternative pop. An accomplished screen and stage talent, they appeared on Broadway as Emile in Les Liaison Dangereuses and in Cirque du Soleil in addition to acting alongside James Franco in HBO’s hit The Deuce. 2019 saw Kat make their musical debut with fan favorite singles such “King of Shadow,” “Birds,” and “For the Love.” Not to mention, they supported LP on a sold out U.S. Tour and received praise from Nylon, Teen Vogue, New York Times, Earmilk, and more. Kat currently co-stars in Netflix’s Emmy award winning show “Trinkets,” as Sabine, a musician and also love interest to lead actress, Brianna Hildebrand. Kat, who identifies as non-binary (they/them), recently signed to Lava / Republic Records and released their first single under the new deal, “Supernova (tigers blud).” The single arrived in tandem with the season two premiere of the show where Kat’s character, Sabine, performs it in the opening scene. Next up, Kat will also be a principal in the upcoming Jennifer Lopez film, Marry Me.
The Dragon Sisters
When you see hip-hop duo The Dragon Sisters in action for the first time you’re likely to wonder: who are these magical beings? Six-foot-five, acres of liquid brown skin, braids past the butt, legs for so many days it might as well be weeks? Are they together, like together-together? Are they drag queens? Are they twins? Sisters at least? Brothers? Are they male or female, both or neither? Are they even real?
The EP’s first track, “The Vibe” simmers into your ears, floating on a surface about to be broken by a boil. The tension of the instrumentation is there for a reason, as it speaks on behalf of all the too-femme, or too-masc, or too-something people that have worked hard to be where they are and deserve to be treated with respect. The subject matter is serious, even confrontational, but the melody and clever repetition of lyrics, the instruction to move “side-to-side” make it impossible to listen to the track without letting your shoulders dance. It’s in this opener that we get an introduction to the full spectrum of the duo’s talents. Their quick-witted lyricism punctuated by manipulations of voice keep the ear excited but sit comfortably within the group’s developing umbrella of sound
Dark-pop artist, HOLDN, is on the rise with a gritty pop sound that sets her apart from the rest. An alternative rock veteran, HOLDN is no stranger to stepping onto the stage and giving her audience a place to feel safe in being who they are and giving them an electric, interactive performance that keeps her fans coming back for more. Although mysterious, she is also raw and candid, seamlessly providing listeners with in depth synth-pop music. Different, yet formulaic, she displays her rawest form through her music.
